Had a meet-and-greet video call today with the CEO which reminded me of the first in-person meeting I had with the Guardian's CEO probably a decade ago.
-
Before the meeting I decided I needed to tidy myself up a bit and would have a shave first thing that morning. Our flat then didn't have a shower, only a bath, so I ran a bath and got my shaving stuff ready.
-
I grabbed the electric shaver while trying to adjust the bath temperature, then turned to the mirror and confidently buzzed it across my sideburn. It was at this point that I realised I'd forgotten to attach the blade guard.
-
I shaved a complete strip out of my sideburn, gone. I quickly put the shaver on the side of the bath to assess the damage. Too busy staring at the mirror, I knocked the—electric—shaver into the now-full bath.
-
I had to try my best to even out the other sideburn to match, using just a plain safety razor. It still looked horrendous, to the point where I considered removing my entire beard.
-
In the end I sat to the left of the CEO to hide the damage to my beard, and as far as I'm aware, he didn't spot my half-missing facial hair. Had to buy a new shaver.
-
For today's meeting, I shaved extremely carefully.
